Jackson lifts No. 6 Baylor over Texas A&M
NCAA Basketball Betting Lines
02/01/2012 -
College Station, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Pierre Jackson's three-pointer with
16.3 seconds left gave Baylor the lead for good, and the sixth-ranked Bears
held on for a 63-60 victory over Texas A&M on Wednesday.
Perry Jones III scored 15 points to lead Baylor (20-2, 7-2 Big 12) and Jackson
had 14. The Bears won their third straight game to extend the best start to a
season in program history.
David Loubeau led Texas A&M (12-9, 3-6) with 16 points while Ray Turner scored
13 with 11 rebounds.
It was the last time the teams will meet in the regular season as Big 12
rivals because Texas A&M is moving to the Southeastern Conference next season.
The Aggies took their first lead in more than 17 minutes on Turner's layup
with 11:49 remaining, which made it 44-42 and capped a 19-4 run.
Several minutes after that, and with Texas A&M holding a 49-44 lead, the teams
came together in a minor scuffle at halfcourt after Jackson jumped on a loose
ball and called timeout for Baylor.
Players left their benches, but no fouls were called because of the timeout.
Later, Daniel Alexander knocked down a three-pointer that tied the game for
Texas A&M at 58-58 with 2:13 remaining. On the Aggies' next trip down the
court, Loubeau worked on Quincy Acy in the lane and scored on a right-handed
hook shot to make it 60-58.
But Jackson buried a straightaway three-pointer at the other end to make it
61-60 and there was some confusion on Texas A&M's next possession.
The Aggies inbounded the ball to Elston Turner in the right corner and he spun
around for a hasty three-pointer despite 9.3 seconds showing on the clock. He
missed off the back of the rim and Jackson knocked down a pair of free throws
at the other end for the final score.
Gary Franklin's three-pointer in the final minute gave Baylor a 36-25 lead at
the break. It was the largest lead of the first half.
Game Notes
Both teams shot around 39 percent...Texas A&M holds a 127-78 advantage in the
all-time series, which dates back to the 1914-15 season, but Baylor has won
five straight meetings including a 61-52 victory on January 2.

Albert Pujols to be This Year's Home Run Champ Says Online Sportsbook
Barry Bonds is a 50-1 long shot to be this year's home run champ odds. The favorite to be this year's home run champ is none other than Albert Pujols, however.
Now that Barry Bonds is signed and in Giants camp, it is on to his pursuit of all of sports most prestigious records: the all-time home run mark. Bonds sits just 21 homers shy of tying Hank Aaron for the career mark at 755. Word out of Giants’ camp is that Bonds is the healthiest he has been in a few years. Bonds is just two seasons removed from his injury riddled 2005 campaign where he played in only 14 games and hit only 5 home runs. He did come back last year and had a solid season hitting .270 with 26 bombs. All eyes will be on Bonds this spring and summer not only because of his home run chase but his highly publicized steroid abuse allegations. If and when Bonds breaks the record, he surely will not get the positive attention one should for breaking a record that was once thought of as “unbreakable”. Despite Bonds decent season last year, he is just 50-1 at MySportsbook.com to lead the MLB in long balls this season.
Not surprisingly, the favorites to go deep the most times this season are Albert Pujols 5-1, Ryan Howard 6-1, David Ortiz 8-1 and Alex Rodriguez 12-1. With 49 homers, Pujols finished second in the National League behind Howard (58). Pujols is considered the favorite due to the consistent power numbers that he has posted since breaking into the league in 2001. Also one must consider the fact that he played in 16 fewer games then Howard did due to an injury. Howard smashed 58 homers in his first complete season of big league play en route to the National League MVP odds award. He silenced his critics by successfully hitting left-handed pitching. Howard also displayed the ability to use his power to the opposite field. Two attributes which should keep Howard amongst the league leaders in long balls for years to come. From the American League representatives, David Ortiz leads the field. Ortiz was second in the majors last year with 54 home runs. Except for 1999 when he only played in 10 games, Ortiz has improved on his home run numbers each year he has been in the majors (1997).
